Sourdough bread from a wood-fired oven — and a brand inspired by the painted stoves of old Ukrainian homes.
(Challenge)
Create a brand for craft bread that conveys the product's key advantage — an old-world baking method — and looks modern on the shelf next to mass-market producers.
(Solution)
We turned to tradition: the old stoves where bread was baked were decorated with Ukrainian ornament. We took this idea as the basis and created a geometric pattern with motifs of berries, leaves and wheat ears. The colourful pattern became the face of the packaging, and each type of bread got its own colour.
An old recipe
The main advantage of Ivan Khlib (“Ivan's Bread”) is that the dough is made with natural sourdough and the bread is baked in a wood-fired oven — exactly the way it was baked in the old days.
Folk ornament
The old stoves used for baking bread were painted with Ukrainian ornament. We took this as the foundation of the design: from the first sketches to a modular pattern.
Baked the way it used to be. And looking the way it should today.
